The Ascendant/Descendant Axis divides the Natal Chart into two halves - the visible half and invisible half. While the Midheaven-point moves reasonably steady from day to day throughout the year, the rising and setting-points vary, lengthening into the “long winter evenings” and shortening into the so-called “Daylight Saving” period of long days and short summer nights. This means they move about 1 degrees every 4 minutes.ĭue to the inclination of the polar axis in its relationship to the Sun, the number of degrees which pass over the horizon in 2 hours varies with the time of year and the latitude of the place where the birth occurs. The Houses have an approximate 24 hour rotation period, each sign is in each house for about 2 hours out of the day. The Sign coming up over the horizon at the time of your birth is called the “Rising Sign” or “Ascendant Sign.” This is the starting point, and the divisions work eastwards (or down) from there. The Houses depend on your location, and how those divisions are spread out across the sky at the time of your birth. The Signs are based on twelve 30 degree divisions of the sky. The First house is the house of self-identity, tenth house is career, 4 th house is our home life, etc. The Houses represent different spheres of our lives – different themes in the world.
